Lets recap!

For a little recap it is easy to realize that in the 21st century the smartphone has become the most powerful communication tool in our world. Even though the smartphone causes many distractions, it has definitely enhanced our daily lives. All of the apps have transformed the different ways we can interact with people. Apps provide any information that we need to get things done. We use apps for digital mapping, navigation, traffic updates, and many other things. The best part is that this is all available in just the palm of your hand! “The apps of today provide enumerable benefits for users; who knows what the apps of tomorrow will bring.”

Survey asking people if they use apps or mobile websites more often?

According to my research, many people are resorting to apps rather than mobile websites. To see if these facts are realistic I decided to ask some of my friends that use their smartphones daily! So here we go with some questions!

Question: Nick do you find yourself resorting to use apps more than mobile websites?

I use apps more than mobile websites because I am lazy. Rather than typing in www.facebook.com why wouldn't I just click on the Facebook app? Apps are much more convenient especially when you are in a rush. The only time I find myself using a mobile website is when an app doesn't exist for what I am looking for. In my opinion more apps will be created everyday and the popularity of mobile websites will just continue to decline.

Question: Cait do you find yourself resorting to use apps more than mobile websites?

In my opinion people are resorting to apps more than mobile websites since it is easier. If you are looking for something on your phone and go to the mobile website, a lot of time it recommends you to use the app instead. There is legit an app for everything.

Question: Cait how much time do you think you spend on your smartphone per day and how much time do you think is spent on apps?

Per day I think I spend about two hours on my phone. I like to be on my phone a lot at night. I think I spend at least half of this time on apps. I need to check my twitter, Instagram, and Facebook!

This survey proves the fact that apps are overtaking mobile websites. Cait and Nick are both 21 and prove the studies that were explained in the previous blogs.

Why are apps becoming more popular than mobile websites?

The article Apps more popular than the mobile web, data highlights the point that, “US consumers use of mobile web sites has dropped by almost a quarter, from an average of 31 minutes daily in March 2013 to 22 minutes a year later.” The article discusses that the amount of time that people spend on their I-phone has increased from the year 2013 to now. In addition, the article states that smartphone users have spent a majority of their time navigating apps rather than websites. “According to Flurry's data, app use grew from 80% of peoples' phone use - 2h6m daily - to 86%, or 2h19m. The graph featured below the blog, depicts that smart phone cell phone users spend a majority of their time on their I-phone using apps rather than any other cell phone feature. The article further explains that the apps that have an increase in popularity have the most advertisements. It is very clear that apps are over powering mobile websites.

Apps helping people daily

There are many apps that were created with the sole purpose of increasing efficiency. The article five apps that will increase productivity, discuss apps that were created to help people with everyday life activities. For instance, the Wonderlist app was created to help people become more organized and make lists. Then you can save the list to your i-phone account and share the lists with people from work, family members, friends etc. While the Keeper app, was used to save different passwords you need at work or for personal, use. The speek app allows people to participate in a conference call at the office. While the Highrise app, was created to merge e-mails, calendars, and messages and save them onto one account. Lastly, the shoeboxed app allows a user to organize all different receipts and save them to one device. All these apps mentioned are free to download, and were created to make arduous tasks painless with just the push of an app!

What are the most popular apps?

There are so many apps out there, but which ones are the most popular! As of July 2014, Android had   1.3 million apps and Apple had 1.2 million apps! With all these apps out there which ones are the best ones? According to the chart below mobileappreport.com score tracks the 25 most popular apps in the US. Facebook comes in first with 115.4 million viewers 18 and older! These apps are the most popular apps this year. It is interesting to note that Facebook is the most popular app used, due to the fact that 115.4 million people use it. This proves that instead of people typing in www.facebook.com. Most of the population just presses the app button and their account appears. Then youtube comes next and then after that google is represented, due to the fact that 70.2 million take advantage of this app. I think people are going to be more inclined to use these search engines as apps rather than using them through safari. Take a look at the chart below to check out other popular apps!

What are the features of mobile websites?

A mobile website is very similar to a website on a computer. Mobile websites consists of html pages that are connected together and formed into a webpage. These sites display text content, data, images, and videos. These websites also have special features like click to call or location from map. Mobile websites are accessed through browsers such as safari and firefox. When navigating mobile websites, the user has to type the website into the search engine then they have to press the search button. The articles from these websites are not always formatted, specifically for a smart phone. Therefore, it is not always the easiest to read. Typically the apps are either formatted for a smart phone or i-pad, which help the user obtain the information quickly and easily. The whole process of having to type an address into a search engine is very time consuming. Many well-known websites such as Facebook and ESPN are now formatted into apps which is a much easier and faster way to access the information you are trying to obtain.
